The school run, measured

Seen from above: a child in a green helmet sits in the cargo box reading a Pokémon book while the bike stands on wet asphalt.

I timed the school run for two weeks. By cargo bike: fourteen minutes door to door, including the slow bridge, one heron sighting, and two proper conversations with a six-year-old.

The same trip by car, according to people who do it: eleven minutes of driving, nine minutes of parking, and no herons whatsoever.
